About Us

H&C was established in 1965. In the years since, H&C has undergone a number of changes to now being recognised as a specialist supplier of automated handling systems to the global products processing industry.

The company’s evolution began in the late 1970s when demand was generated by local New Zealand manufacturers such as Watties Foods and Morrison Industries. A significant step in this transformation was the mid-1990s introduction of robots to our solutions.

Our first dairy-dedicated handling system was designed to remove cartons and plastic from 20kg (40 lb) bulk cheese blocks being fed to conversion and packaging lines – proprietary technology, while continually improving, has been at the core of more than 130 H&C solutions installed around the world since.

In 2002 H&C merged with well-established automation company, P&D Systems, thereby enabling H&C to begin offering a turnkey design service to customers.

Haden & Custance is recognised as a leader in the design and manufacture of automated handling systems which prepare bulk cheese and butter for further processing. Our approach is to design and deliver market leading solutions, we don’t just supply standard equipment. Our comprehensive team of experts reliably deliver end-to-end turnkey solutions, from concept to commissioning and every detail in between. H&C’s strength is that what is promised is delivered, not just during the installation but over the entire life of our solutions.

“We are very impressed with the quality of Haden & Custance’s technology solutions. They satisfy our needs and we believe they are very good value on investment.”

Sean Moran, Operations Manager, Bega Cheese – Australia

“Haden & Custance produced a miracle! We were under three metres of water in January 2011. By July 2011, we were back in full production with six new ABB robots. Thank you for sharing your Kiwi ingenuity with us.”

Iwan Lane, Engineering Manager, Dulux – Australia

“Thank you to the H&C project team for delivering what was effectively a perfect start-up on the designated first day of commercial production for the DB Waitemata Keg Conveyoring, Palletising and Pallet Wrapping system.  The completion of the installation phase within the tight timeframe and very successful vertical start-up combined with the excellent build quality of the equipment, has set a project execution benchmark to be aspired to.”

Garry Biggelaar, Project Manager at DB Breweries New Zealand, 2015
